“Bi Tian” (Blue Sky), “Xiao Feng” (Like Mad), “Xue An” (Snow Temple), “Yi Ge” (A Spear)
were the pen names used by Zhu Xuanxian in 1940s when he was in Zhejiang and Shanghai. “Yi Ge” (A Spear) were the pen names used by Zhu Xuanxian in some times in 1950s, 1960s. the sale “Xue An” (Snow Temple) used by Zhu Xuanxian some times after 1949.

After 1949, Since lived in Chongqing, Zhu Xuanxian signed on nearly all his tranditional Chinese paintings the name "Zhe Ren" (a man of Zhejiang origin) or "Zhe Ren, Zhu Xuanxian" (Zhu Xuanxian, a man of Zhejiang origin), which is a fixed title on most of his works. The word "Zhe Ren" means he was born in Zhejiang, which shows that he was conscious of where he came from at any time, and that he missed his hometown in his whole life, which is the implication we can read clearly from his inscriptions on most of his traditional Chinese paintings.
