.....朱宣咸自二十世纪四十年代在浙江家乡、在上海直到这以后在重庆以及外出时,他都不间断的收藏书籍阅读使用,以提高自己。比如:这其中有他自费订阅的中国美协机关杂志、中国美术界最高专业刊物《美术》月刊,他是自创刊起的第一期直到他预订的2003年全年止,一本不差,历时半个多世纪!仅《美术》拿出来就能装上满满一书柜。同时,他对书的保存有着良好的习惯,在这里他就将《美术》全部按年装订成一部部牢实的合订本,然后再在外面包装上牛皮纸,在牛皮纸的封面和书背上用毛笔墨汁写上书名和年代时段等。
朱宣咸一生积累了丰富的藏书,特别在美术专业类书籍方面。
在书法上,朱宣咸博取众家之长,形成自己的特色。尤其在二十世纪八十年代起他比较集中的习练、研究吴昌硕艺术与石鼓文等,如一直搜集他的书法练习,则早亦可堆放一屋。
此外,朱宣咸创作的所有中国画、版画等美术作品也与他的书法研究一样,在1989年离休前,一直完全是利用他自己在繁重的美术组织、美术编辑与美术教育等日常工作之余有限的业余时间来完成的。

Zhu Xuanxian's calligraphy displays the gain of diversity of masters, featuring a style of his own. In 1980s, in particular, he was absorbed in calligraphy practsing, studying WU Cangsuo Art and Shigu characters, etc.; his collections of their calligraphy works could stuff up half of a room.)
